Secret 7" 2013: my 3 entries

Last year I submitted 2 designs for the first ever Secret 7" event - for Florence & The Machine's 'Only if for a Night' and Ben Howard's 'Black Flies'. Almost exactly 52 weeks ago I was happily amazed to be told that the Florence design was one of the winning entries. A couple of months later a copy of the single, in my cover and signed by Florence, popped through the letter box.

The 2012 charity being supported by the sale of 100s of Secret 7" singles, on Record Store Day in April, was the Teenage Cancer Trust. This year it is another wonderful organisation - Art Against Knives. Each single sells for £40, with the buying public in the dark about exactly which single is inside.

For the 2013 event I chose to illustrate Laura Marling's 'The Beast' (above at top) and these two also:
Nick Drake 'Rider on the Wheel'

Haim 'Better Off'

Like all the other hundreds of illustrators from all over the world who submitted entries there is now a nail-biting wait to hear if we were successful. It is rewarding in itself to be able to support such a brilliant event and charity and, whether or not one of my designs goes through, I know I shall be doing it again this time next year.

EP Cover Design for Sarah Moss's 'These Full Moons'

I was delighted to be asked to do the artwork for the front and back of the debut EP by Sarah Moss. We actually first met and talked it over at the beautifully decaying/restored Wilton's music hall - yep, I'm that cool dear readers. Sarah spoke of moons, a tree, apocalyptical and Dionysian scenes - I was of course totally beguiled by these ideas!

So 3 months on, the EP has been released and it's flipping beautiful .. all the 3 tracks are wonderful ... lyrics, composition, voice and instrumentals. To choose a favourite is impossible but if I was forced I would have to say 'All That Wander':

It's already available digitally via Bandcamp: - where all 3 tracks can be listened to before buying :)
